It sounds simple, but sleep and recovery shape everything: our energy, mood, focus and resilience. When we sleep well, we recover well. And when we recover well, we have better days both at work and beyond.

Team Bethan has been sharing ideas, resources and practical tools to help us understand why sleep matters and how we can support ourselves in getting the best sleep (and rest) possible.

Why wellbeing matters at work

This month’s wellbeing in the workplace theme, builds on the previous months’ topics (female hormone health and stress and nervous system regulation) and together, these themes are helping us create something bigger than a single month’s conversation starter - we’re building a Bethan Wellbeing Toolbox full of resources, habits and practices we can use individually and as a team when life and work start to feel busy, stressful or simply when we need a little reset.

Wellbeing & International Women’s Day.

For International Women’s Day this year, the team all received a message from Bethan’s Director, Nicola Alexander,  that perfectly captured what we stand for:

“No big gestures. No clichés.

Just one intentional move.

We talk a lot about human flourishing wellbeing in the workplace and this was a practical, meaningful way to actively support it. Every woman in the team was given up to £50 to make one intentional choice before 8 April:

  • A course
  • A class
  • A ticket
  • A skill
  • A room you wouldn’t normally walk into
  • The thing you’ve been half-thinking about but haven’t quite committed to

One move. In 30 days. Something that stretches you, builds you, and moves you forward.”

What the team chose

Since then, it has been genuinely amazing to see what the team has chosen, and even more brilliant to see the confidence behind those choices.

Some of the activities include:

  • Wellbeing circles
  • Pamper and recovery treatments
  • Rowing memberships
  • Creative workshops

Some of us chose rest and recovery, others chose movement and strength and some chose creativity, learning and connection. These weren’t just “nice treats”, they were investments in wellbeing and personal development. Each choice looked different, but there is a very common thread through them all: growth through intention.

What’s been most inspiring is that the team chose things they wouldn’t normally do. That’s where growth happens: in the small moments of courage and commitment.

Why wellbeing matters in the workplace.

Wellbeing isn’t one-size-fits-all, we’re customs specialists but definitely all human and we know that to do our best work, we need to find a wellbeing approach that works for us as individuals and as a team. We’ve found that the best approach is having a range of options (a toolbox) so we can choose what we need depending on the day / week / month / season.

Some days this looks like:

  • Stillness
  • Community
  • Movement
  • Creativity
  • Rest

And sometimes we need a gentle nudge to try something new.

Keeping up the good work.

As we continue our wellbeing themes throughout the year, the aim remains the same -  to ensure the Bethan team has access to tools and ideas that support and encourage physical and mental wellbeing at home and in the workplace.

Human flourishing isn’t accidental. It’s built, one intentional choice at a time.
