Our Philosophy

Everything we do is bespoke, tailored to meet the requirements of our clients, whatever size, sector, or business challenges they face.

Often our clients require some guidance as to the measures that will address those challenges. That’s where we come in – we match up your requirement with the solutions to help your business, and then we help you to implement these.

How we can help:

• A comprehensive range of services to support HMRC applications.
• Flexible solutions to ensure processes and procedures are UCC compliant.
• Company health checks and reviews on supply chain procedures.
• Up-to-the-minute training packages to keep staff informed about current customs legislation.
• Independent, impartial advice and support.

Meet the Team

Here at Bethan we love what we do! Our clients tell us this comes across loud and clear. Here’s the low-down on our team of customs specialists….

Nicola Alexander – Managing Director

Drawing on a wealth of knowledge and experience, Bethan’s MD, Nicola Alexander, is an authority on all things customs and compliance related.

Nicola has held a number of key roles during her career including Customs Supervisor and Customs Consultancy Manager. She established Bethan Customs Consultancy in 2015, driven by the conviction that there was a better way of helping businesses to navigate the ever-evolving world of importing and exporting.

Since then Nicola has built a strong reputation – in Bethan’s North-east heartland and across the UK - for providing clear, practical and impartial advice to businesses in relation to their customs compliance and supply chain requirements. Her hand-picked team of expert customs consultants, advisers and managers share her ethos of helping businesses to flourish by doing things differently – reliable, professional support delivered via a friendly and collaborative service.

Nicola’s sweet tooth is the stuff of legend – her dedication to customs legislation is exceeded only by her love of awesome tunes and sweeties!

Aby Wilson – Business Development Manager

Aby joined the team in 2017, initially as a Customs Administrator, before being promoted to her current role. Before this Aby studied law at Napier University, and gained valuable experience across a number of roles in the oil and gas, and other private sectors.

Aby’s role at Bethan is essentially to ensure the smooth running of the business. She provides support in the co-ordination of tenders and preparation of proposals. Aby also acts as the first point of contact, managing client relationships and co-ordinating our training courses.

This crisp-sandwich aficionado is also our social media guru, establishing and maintaining our presence online and across a number of social platforms. Her analytical eye comes into play as she carries out data analysis and market intelligence.

Aby is also very proud to be a trustee for a national children’s charity.

Elaine Lownds – Customs Manager

Elaine puts the cool into customs! With over 25 years’ experience working for HM Revenue and Customs, there is little she doesn’t know about customs compliance, authorisations and audits.

Elaine joined the team in 2018 as a Customs Consultant. Her expertise, experience and rapport with clients saw her promoted to the role of Customs Manager just a year later. Elaine leads our team of consultants in providing customs support to our clients: advising on imports/exports and duty suspension matters, customs entry amendments and diversions, MSS reports and managing client customs records to HMRC expectations. She is also involved in supporting clients with their dealings with HMRC including assisting with HMRC Assurance visits, and has successfully assisted multiple businesses in gaining AEO accreditation with HMRC.

When she’s not working hard on our clients’ behalf, Elaine has a busy time of it looking after her two gorgeous pooches Woody and Daisy.

Stuart Wood – Compliance Executive

New Pitsligo born Stuart became part of the team in 2018. A strong industry background in a number of disciplines, combined with his customs and logistics experience, has made Stuart indispensable to the clients he supports.

Stuart’s role involves carrying out reviews of supply chain procedures to ensure that they comply with the legislative requirements, identifying cost-saving customs regimes, managing client customs records to HMRC expectations, and assisting clients in their direct or written communication with customs.

When he’s not wrestling with the demands of customs compliances, Stuart is a huge fan of professional wrestling, but would secretly love to play for Aberdeen Football Club!

Gus Firth – Compliance Executive

Gus has gained a wealth of experience during his 14 years within HMRC and Border Force where his roles included Immigration, HMRC Detection Assistant Officer and Border Force Officer. With specialisms in maritime traffic and customs controls at heliports, Gus brings a substantial amount of specialist knowledge that will benefit our clients greatly.

As a Compliance Executive, Gus provides support to a number of clients. He’s involved in carrying out reviews of supply chain procedures to ensure that they comply with the legislative requirements. He also identifies and helps to implement any potential client cost saving customs regimes, manages client customs records to HMRC expectations, and assists clients in their direct or written communication with customs.

Soon-to-be dad, Gus hails from Dumbarton, and has a passion for music and travel, not to mention chocolate raisins!
